The Green River Center for Excellence recently did a survey of I-BEST faculty regarding training needs. They found that 71% of the faculty surveyed were very interested in professional development regarding I-BEST instruction. Here are some the topics that faculty thought would support or enhance their I-BEST teaching.
Do you have anything else to add?
- Collaborative Teaching Strategies (Team-teaching)
- Integrating advising, study skills and college navigation into the curriculum
- Creating student learning outcomes that integrate both tbasic academic and occupational skills content
Additionally:
- Integrating two distinctly different departments: lesson planning, collaboration, time to work together, etc.
- A general overview of I-BEST for new Professional-Technical and Basic Skills instructors. As programs are added, it would be nice to have something that instructors can access right away. In the past we have had to wait for something that is often offered in the summer, which is when many instructors are gone.
- Resources for helping students to overcome situational and personal barriers to achieving their goals.
- Making the content class with both IBEST and non-IBEST students look seamless. How can teh content teacher contribute more to the IBEST class?
- How to optimize student time in their IBEST ESL class.
- Strategies and access to materials created by other instructors
- Instructional technology and online teaching
- Sharing of best practices
- Demos of best team teaching practices via DVD, streaming video, etc.
- Resource sharing/ communication with IBEST teachers in teh same prof/tech program.
- Dealing with IBEST students
- Integrating technology and math into instruction
